Why Speak Life?
It is really quite simple. If you want God to be able to work in your life, you will need to train yourself to speak the truth of God’s life-giving, faith-building word instead of words of doubt and unbelief.
For the believer, to speak life means that you are choosing to speak God’s word by faith, rather than the words that your emotions evoke from your current circumstances. However, there is another very important reason, in addition to obedience for the believer, to choose to speak life-giving words: If you are not speaking life into existence, you are speaking death into existence.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. Proverbs 18:21 (AMP)
Proverbs 18:21 is a very powerful example of the importance of believers choosing to speak what the Bible says instead of what we think or feel. Think of it like this: every word that you speak into this earth is spiritual. If you speak life (words that line up with the Bible) then you are releasing God’s power through the Holy Spirit to work on His behalf in your life and the life of others. However, if you speak death (anything contrary to the truth of the Bible) then you are releasing death (sin) to work in your life and the lives of those around you.
It is the Spirit Who gives life [He is the Life-giver]; the flesh conveys no benefit whatever [there is no profit in it]. The words (truths) that I have been speaking to you are spirit and life. John 6:63 (AMP)
John 6:63 clearly shows us that if we speak the words that Jesus speaks (found in the Bible) then we are speaking life into existence. Yes, the words we speak produce spiritual results. On the contrary, if we are not speaking God’s word, but words that are contrary to His word, then we are speaking death.
Which would you prefer? Speaking life or death into existence? Life, of course!
